A large brickyard, established by the entrepreneur Yap Ah Loy, played a key role in producing the materials needed to build early Malaysia. Later, the British constructed the Malayan Railways in the area, bringing in laborers from India and Sri Lanka to work on the project. Many of these workers settled in the region, and their descendants continue to call Malaysia home today. This mix of historical events helped shape Brickfields into the culturally rich district it is today, known as Little India.

Little India
